A message from Mantalk

Mantalk is a group that was created out of necessity. In an ideal world groups like ours wouldn’t need to exist.

But unfortunately this is not the case. Far too often we watched men we knew struggle with many of aspects of life. Unfortunately for some of them they fell so far into despair that they thought the world would be better without them. We can wholeheartedly say that no matter what has happened in life, that can never be the case. Suicide is not the answer!!

What we are trying to do with Mantalk is ultimately stop men thinking there is no other option by giving them a regular place where they can talk about their problems, make it normal for men to be able to share anything from their daily struggles right through to any trauma they may have had. None of us are experts and we learn more every single week. We watch the group grow and bonds being built and we are well passed the stage of helping that one man.

Our message is no matter who you are, what's happened in your life suicide is never the answer. Reach out to someone, anyone. Sometimes it can be scary thinking about talking about your problems and especially when you feel like the whole world is on top of you and nothing seems like it can go right but we have now seen so many men come along and open up and compliment the group on how much it has helped them.

As a group we are lucky to have Gavin Hart as a very active committee member. The man does so much for the group and in so many ways we would be lost without him. We can only commend him and of course his wife Su and daughter Bethany for all the work they have and continue to do so whilst battling through their own grief after losing Jordan. The work they are putting in will go a long way to ensuring our area is a far better position to help those in need.

Mantalk would like to thank them for everything and all those involved in the Mantalk bench.
