Would you like to be a garden volunteer?

We would be delighted if you would get involved with the garden and come and get your boots muddy with us.

Being part of the Rattray Community Garden team offers a wide range of involvement levels from just popping in now and then to taking up team projects like our new pond. Everyone is free to choose what suits them and their abilities best. All contributions of effort are very welcome from smallest to largest.

The garden has a number of objectives among which is to improve local community well-being by creating social opportunities working with team members, sharing ideas and the satisfaction of a job well done. Loneliness is a terrible, unspoken modern day affliction. It can be hard to find social connections when your new to an area or your life changes in some major way. Working alongside other gardeners in the therapeutic environment of the garden is a great way to build new connections and share with others without any pressure.

Another of our aims is to make fresh produce more widely available locally. So our gardeners can grow and pick their own organic vegetables with help from others where needed. Those with more experience advise those who are just starting but are keen to grow. Gardeners always like to share their knowledge and encourage new growers.

The walled garden is also a surprising ecological gem in the heart of Rattray with lots of opportunities to explore organic methods and ways of improving garden ecology.

garden vegetables

We have had such fun this summer of 2024 with all the vegetable beds producing their first crops and all the ideas and hard work of the team resulting on gorgeous fresh veg

A magnificent crop of green beans, peas, french beans, radishes, potatoes, onions and carrots came from ground that only last year was a wilderness

garden orchard

Many balmy summer Saturday saw us gathered in the orchard area, over cup of tea and having a good chat about plants, gardens and the town gossip

The heart of a community garden is, its volunteers and it thrives on a diversity of outlook and experience to create a beautiful sanctuary in the centre of Rattray for residents benefit.
