Muirton Farm Woods – Felling Plans for 2024
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am contacting you on behalf of Muirton Farm, who are intending to undertake some tree felling and replanting work in some small forests in your area. As part of the application for Felling Permission we seek to engage with local stakeholders, adjacent properties and potentially affected neighbours to inform you of our plans and give you an opportunity to provide feedback or highlight any local constraints or opportunities you may be aware of. Of particular interest is any information on local use of the woodlands in question or knowledge of sensitive species or other features on site that we may have missed.
Summary of Proposals
The application covers two woodland blocks of 5.61 hectares total area. Felling will seek to harvest the non-native conifers for timber, as these are mature and are beginning to suffer wind damage. All native broadleaves will be retained for their ecological and landscape value. I have enclosed a map with the proposed felling areas marked in red.
All trees will be replanted, with a focus on productive conifers in the larger block and native broadleaves on the smaller area.
All operations will take care to protect water quality and avoid disturbance to sensitive species such as birds and red squirrels, in line with industry best practice guidance. There are no known heritage features in the felling areas.
We are currently submitting the felling permission application to Scottish Forestry and hope to undertake the work this year.
We would also encourage circulation of this letter to any other parties you feel may be interested. I have included a list of the properties contacted at the end of this letter.
