Cash boost for Rattray Community Garden
A quiz night organised by volunteers behind the new Rattray Community Garden has raised £500 for the good cause.
More than 70 people took part in the quiz, which was held at Rattray Bowling Club on Friday, February 2, 2024. The winning team on the night was ‘The Wise Women’ with team members Greer Oliver, Kathleen McCormick, Elaine Anderson and Pat Richards.
The quiz is part of ongoing fundraising efforts by those involved with the community garden to help facilitate its transformation into a welcoming, relaxing area for people of all ages where local groups can meet, supporting health and wellbeing, reducing social isolation, developing gardening skills, and observing wildlife.
And those involved have thanked everyone who supported the event for their generosity.
Rattray Community Garden management group volunteer and chair of Blairgowrie and Rattray in Bloom, William Wilson, said: “What a fantastic evening!
“We were absolutely delighted with the turnout and there was a really good atmosphere at the quiz.
“On behalf of all of us involved with Rattray Community Garden, I would look to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the quiz such a successful night.
“Thanks to Moyness Nurseries who donated prizes for the winning team, Rattray Bowling Club for hosting the event, everyone who donated so generously to the raffle and everyone who came along and took part on the night.
“Special thanks must go to quiz master Stuart Nichol and Jean Smith, Avril Wilson, Lesley McDonald and Steve Johnson for organising everything.
“And congratulations to the winning team, The Wise Women!”
Rattray Community Garden is based in what used to be a walled garden for Mount Ericht House and has been home to Blairgowrie and Rattray in Bloom for a number of years.
The quiz is one of a number of activities lined up by those behind the new facility that aim to raise awareness of the community garden, encourage people to get involved in its development and raise funds to support its maintenance.
Since the land was purchased for the community by the Trust with assistance from Blairgowrie and Rattray in Bloom and the Scottish Land Fund, a small team of volunteers has been working towards ensuring that the site is safe and accessible for the wider community. Utilities have been installed at the site, the polytunnels have been refurbished, a new greenhouse has been built and the relevant permissions required to start refurbishment work on one of the buildings have been secured. Potential sources of funding for the building work are currently being explored.
The next event is a spring festival at the garden which will take place on Saturday, April 13 from 2pm to 5pm.
