Alyth to Blairgowrie
This is the first phase of the network and includes a new traffic-free link between Blacklaw and Lochlands. Walkers, Cyclists and horse riders are all welcome to use it. Please be aware that the new link crosses farmland and you are asked to keep dogs and children under control as there may be agricultural machinery in operation near to the path. Horse riders are advised to dismount at the two bridges.
There are four self closing gates which are designed to keep children and dogs safe. There are different options to get from Alyth to Blacklaw (Which will be signposted) and there is an alternative route via St Fink, which makes a round trip possible. Please be aware that there are some steep gradients (Up to 10%)
Coupar Angus to Bendochy
This is the second phase of the network to help link up Coupar Angus with Blairgowrie and Alyth. Once this is complete it will link you up at the Bendochy crossroads allowing you to cycle or walk to Blairgowrie on quiet back roads.
Coupar Angus to Alyth
There are some great Green Routes and quiet roads linking up the towns. If you look at the 'Beyond the Network' section on their website you will find that you can cycle out past Larghan Park on the Coupar Angus road to Ardler village and then cross the A94 onto the Aberbothrie road that links you onto the Alyth to Blairgowrie section of the Strathmore Cycle Network (This is all sign posted with Blue Cycle and Walking signs)
Overview
The network aims to link the towns of Alyth, Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus for Active Travel. This allows people to walk, cycle or horse-ride safely and directly. The network will develop through a number of phases with multipurpose (or shared use) paths and some sections on quiet roads. Where possible, the roads used will be designated as Green Routes which have reduced speed limits.
Strathmore Cycle Network began as an initiative from Perth and Kinross Council using quiet back roads to link settlements in the area. It is now being developed to provide wider opportunities through a partnership between Alyth Development Trust, Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust and Forward Coupar Angus which are all local voluntary bodies. These organisations would like to acknowledge the various funders and land owners who have given support and resources to help develop this fantastic network.
